What is the CAB? It’s a question we ask ourselves often. The CAB is a place: a place for things to happen. An artistic campus in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Montréal. But it’s also an idea, and that idea is constantly evolving.
We support artists’ entire creative process; through collaboration and experimentation, in an environment where they are free from traditional constraints and expectations. Multi-disciplinary art practices; weaving local, national, and international talents; artists at different stages in their careers; diverse curatorial voices. We offer dynamic programming to nourish our artistic community; our neighbourhood; our city.
How do buildings speak to each other? Our creative ecosystem extends over two sites; the Centre and the Ateliers. With spaces for exhibitions, performances, gathering, education, gardens; for artist studios and residencies, and a café. These two places weave our project together, inviting people to see the works and the creative process. We care about what’s unfinished, not just the end result.
Of course, the CAB isn’t just about artists. Yes, it is a home for the arts, but for many other things as well. We’re creating a space for everyone through community-centered programming. We’re bringing people together to experience art and fun in a place where they can feel welcome, comfortable, and contribute their experience. The CAB belongs to everyone.
How many lives can a building have? Our architecture embraces the imprint of our buildings' industrial pasts while honouring the natural world that predated it. We’re rewilding areas around the Centre and the Ateliers, creating green spaces where there was once so much concrete. Nature, just like art, can transform our emotional wellbeing; that’s why we want to offer both.
